Apps
All open source, all self-hosted, all running on my own hardware. Posts link here rather than carrying a link farm of their own. Back to systems.
| What | Why it's here |
|---|---|
| Obsidian | The editor over my knowledge base. Plain Markdown files underneath. |
| Self-hosted LiveSync + CouchDB | Keeps that vault in sync, running as a container on Pinky. The source of more incidents here than anything else. |
| Qdrant | Vector database, so I can search my notes by meaning rather than keyword. |
| Ollama | Open-weight models on a discrete GPU, for anything that shouldn't leave the house. |
| n8n | Scheduled jobs and integrations. By a wide margin the largest single source of silent failure. |
| Uptime Kuma | Monitoring and alerting, on Josie. Covers the automations, not just the services. |
| Portainer | Container management. Stacks are defined in files and deployed from them. |
| Infisical | Centralised secrets. Nothing in a script, nothing in a note. |
| Home Assistant | Home automation — sensors, switches, lighting, and the garage door. |
| Nextcloud | File sync and sharing, self-hosted. |
| Vikunja | Task management, with an API. Replaced a Markdown table that had stopped working as one. |
| BlueBubbles | Puts iMessage behind an API, from the Mac mini, so automations can send me a message on the thing I actually read. |
| Hermes Agent | The agent framework, in a container on Pinky. Reads from the vault and answers on Telegram. Open source, from Nous Research. |
| Kanata | The home row modifiers. Needs its virtual HID driver pinned to a matching major version, or the keyboard stops working entirely. |
